Shaquille O’Neal wants to join the Boston Celtics, and the 2010 Eastern Conference champions have the room to accommodate Shaq because Kendrick Perkins is set to miss the opening three months of the season recovering from his knee injury.
The Celtics can only offer Shaq minimum wage, but with the carrot of a fifth championship hanging in front of him, Shaq should take the offer and join the Boston Celtics’ quest for a record 18th banner.
And the Boston Celtics shouldn’t stop there, already inking Jermaine O’Neal, the Celtics should also add Tracy McGrady and Allen Iverson.
The team would resemble an All-Star team, circa, 2000-2004, with Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen already in Bean town, all former superstars well past their prime, but with one common goal and the desire to achieve the ultimate success together with the most star studded line-up of all-time.
Add point guard Rajon Rondo, and a healthy Perkins down the track, a Celtics team with so much experience may just be the potion required to destroy the title aspirations of Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic, and the evil henchmen of the Miami Heat in 2011.
It would be more than just ganging up to combat the scheme team in Miami, and it would be more than a circus team cruising through each and every NBA city, this would represent a team that NBA fans would follow each and every night, hoping the Celtic green would have the kryptonite to stop LeBron James’ easy option in South Beach for NBA glory.
They would become a team of the people. The team the world, outside of Miami, cheer for.
This can happen.
The seven stars of yester-year, Pierce, Garnett, Allen, O’Neal, O’Neal, Iverson and McGrady, won’t be required to play 38 minutes a night, they have the ability to share the minutes so that the team is fresh throughout the season.
How could any of these players step out of line with their peers standing shoulder to shoulder with them through the season. If anything, these players would be willing to sacrifice their own stats for the benefit of the team and to be part of a winning culture in Boston.
A starting line-up of Rondo, Allen, Pierce, Garnett and Shaq, backed up by Nate Robinson, Iverson, McGrady, Jermaine O’Neal and Perkins may just be the most awesome line-up ever constructed in NBA history.
This banding together would be different from the one in Miami. Shaq, Iverson and McGrady are no longer the one’s who would carry a team to a championship but individually can bring another piece to a championship puzzle. And with head coach Doc Rivers now regarded as one of the premier coaches in the league, he would have the respect from the Boston All-Stars to make the right decisions on the sidelines.
I know it is far-fetched that something like this could come together, but that is not going to stop me from dreaming and pushing for the Boston Celtics to experiment with the idea of bringing together some of the greatest players in the last 10 years for one shot at NBA immortality on the same team.

Sounds a bit too much like
Sounds a bit too much like the Houston Rockets team of the late mid 90s; Hakeen "The Dream", Clyde "The Glide" and Barkley. Iverson no chance with no point guards already there and T-Mac just doesn't fit. Love the idea of the team though
